Another weekend is coming our way with loads to do and loads on to fill all criteria’s. First and foremost you know that little redhead women that graced matchboxes far and wide many years ago, I am not sure whether she still does? But I think she would have lots of stories to tell if you could ask her. Anyway in celebration of her and the many variations of her and matchboxes over the years this Saturday and Sunday will bring in Newport in Melbourne (near Williamstown) “The 55th Anniversary Exhibition of Australian Match Cover Collectors Society”. Doors open at 10am, so quite a unique and fascinating look into the history of the lowly matchbox which apparently spans 200 years.
Saturday brings an annual event which was initially developed by the traders of Bell St in Torquay and has since grown into an event brimming with loads of great activities, live music, food and wine tasting, demonstrations and exhibitions. Known at Bell St Fiesta, I think it is definitely worth a visit for a lazy wander and a bit of indulgence and purchasing along the way. Checkout www.bellstfiesta.com.au.
If your in Geelong and after some wonderful fresh produce and some super cooking demonstrations along the way, (mmm I’m hungry thinking about that), then head to Little Malop St and straight towards Central Geelong Farmers Market. I think I might head over there this Saturday and stock up with some tasty delights.
This Sunday, there is a reasonably big event taking place….yes it’s Mother’s Day. I must say before I became a Mum I was not a great fan seeing it as a commercially based event, but now I do nothing less than revel in it. To Mums far and wide “Happy Mother’s Day” and if your looking for things to do there’s lots to do. If you’re an energetic mum, then head to Geelong Conference Centre for a run or in my case a walk with a bit of a jog for the Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run/Walk. Or perhaps take Mum for a scenic ride on Bellarine Railway and she gets to travel for free. How about a high tea in the wonderful surrounds of Wintergarden or Mother’s Day brunch at Pandora’s Café in Ryrie Street? Whatever you do make it a special day for your Mum, simply because she deserves it.
Have a great weekend whatever you do in this sensational region of ours……………..
