I am going to recommend some great things to do this weekend in this fantastic region of our’s…I promise too that they will all be indoors and heating will be provided!!
Geelong Gallery is something everybody should make a note to do. It is a wonderful space filled with some really interesting and wonderful exhibitions to suit every taste. I am going to take my 8 year old son who seems to display finesse on his skateboard to “Skater – Portraits by Nikki Toole”. This is a photo exhibition examining identities within the skater culture. There are also currently 2 other exhibitions House and Home which is a mix of sculpture and photographic displays. Sentinels and Showboats – milestones in print collecting which will be on display until 9 September.
If you are an appreciator of fine antiquities then “Lily Pond” is definitely a shopping experience not to be missed. The store itself sits beautifully presented on the corner of Moorabool and Maud St and offers a delightful mix of French antiques, homewares and gifts. They really have done a wonderful job in the wares on offer. A definite must visit for a little or large spoil yourself purchase.
How about a nice red wine to warm the cockles of your heart whilst enjoying a beautiful ocean outlook indulging in a wonderful luncheon with family or friends? Jack Rabbit offers all of the above with a sensational array of wines, culinary treats and a warm and contemporary environment. Located on the Bellarine Peninsula, this is another must visit destination.
Do you have a love of homewares and interior design? I know I do, it’s one of my favourite pastimes….Somewhere I have frequented more than once for an individual, interesting addition has been” Inside Out” on the corner of Shannon Ave and Autumn St in Geelong West. The owners travel the globe for an eclectic mix of individual pieces from furniture through to rugs, cushions and howewares. They also offer an internal interior design service which I have heard on all accounts is well worth considering for your current or next home.
Finally another must do and that is a visit to Moorabool Valley Chocolates which is located on Ballarat Road, Batesford. It is part of a 125 year old farm and whilst enjoying the calming views of horses grazing there are some magnificent chocolate morsels on offer as well as some wonderful coffee and beverages to enjoy them with. It really is a delightful spot and a perfect addition to your weekend calendar.
Well I think that’s a good overview of some great things to seek out this weekend in Geelong and surrounds. Grab the thermals and the family and head out and have a wonderful time.
