Another warm weekend ahead this weekend off to the beach we go ( yep I am definitely dreaming in regards to that thought)….not to worry thank goodness there are a lot of great things to do to get us out of the cold, or make us rug up and keep us entertained.
It seems this weekend is market weekend, there will certainly be no excuse for an empty fridge or a good excuse to whip up some great winter fare from fantastic local produce. Or perhaps just to browse and maybe a purchase or two of some great creative wares on offer?
Torquay Central Farmers Market kicks off Saturday from 8.30am until 1pm. It is quote unquote: a genuine European style farmers market with great fresh food and produce from around the region. Here come the ingredients for my Minestrone Soup…….just head to the carpark at Torquay Central on Bristol Rd, Torquay.
Barwon Heads Market is another market on Saturday from 9am-1pm and again offers some great fresh produce, homemade jams, lavender, oils, plants, craft and jewellery. You will find that market at Barwon Heads Community Hall.
By the time you get home you will be just in time for the 1.45pm Saturday telecast: Cats VS Adelaide at Simonds Stadium.
Saturday night will bring all the great restaurants and bars on offer in Geelong but if your in the mood for a bit of live music and don’t mind the tunes of Rihanna or Lady Gaga (I don’t mind her music but her film clips need a rating) The Sphinx has their live show on tonight. Obviously not the real deal, however some great talent to sit back and enjoy.
Sunday is bringing more markets to Geelong but these markets frequent us only occasionally. I have been to both and have to say they are definitely worth a peruse. Take2Market kicks off at 10am at Geelong West Town Hall. Stallholders come from far and wide and there is a really good mix of interesting and vintage second hand clothing and accessories. It actually takes me back to my teens when second hand levis and seventy’s leather and suede jackets were the look and I would spend hours scanning all the op shops locally. I remember finding the coolest suede jacket which literally became a rag in the not too distant future due to overwear….Head to Take 2 Market a definite goody and a proud supporter of Fight Cancer Foundation.
Another sensational market of which Janina who is a highly creative, clever girl runs it and has pulled together some amazing stallholders with a wide variation of beautiful arts, clothing, jewellery and gourmet food all under the roof of Deakin Waterfront. It is Piccadilly Market and it is just gorgeous, a lot of things you haven’t seen before. Entry is free, hours are 10-4pm and I will definitely be at that one….it’s certainly up there as a favourite.
Well that’s it this weekend…..look out for the August issue of Whats On from this weekend onwards and only one more month and then it’s spring…..oh I am waking up already at the thought of that!!
