Geelong could face ‘meltdown’ if Ford closes - unions

IMG_4031 Ford is under pressure to reveal its plans about the future of its Australian operations, amid speculation the automotive giant's preparing to  bow out by 2016.

According to STEPHEN LONGLEY from PPB Advisory, car part makers think it's only a matter of time before the nation's third-largest manufacturer decides to shut shop in Geelong and Broadmeadows.

And he says changes to European design rules relating to engine emissions will only make things tougher for Ford:

Unions say the uncertainty is making things even worse, and Geelong could face a Detroit-like economic meltdown if Ford closes its doors.
