Federal member for Corio Richard Marles has called on the state government to fix the unmanned station, saying it’s which is says poorly lit and is not even on a local bus route.
He’s used question time in federal parliament to call on the Baillieu state government to upgrade access and safety at the rundown station.
He says he’s heard anecdotes of taxis refusing to pick people up there because it’s so dangerous.
Geelong Mayor JOHN MITCHELL is supporting the call, saying he wants to see both Corio and North Shore stations upgraded.
In a bizarre statement a spokesman for transport minister Terry Mulder has tried to link the dilapidated state of the station to the federal government’s carbon tax, but Mr Marles says that’s laughable:
