Police say the vehicle was abandoned on the line near the St George’s Road crossing just before 5:00am.
Sergeant Karen Allsopp from Geelong Police says the train collided with the car a short time later:
No-one was injured but the accident forced V/Line to cancel all trains between Geelong and Melbourne and replace them with buses until the wreckage could be cleared.
The line was re-opened just after 7:00am.
